Domain registration is the process by which a company or individual can secure a website domain, such as ´www.yoursite.com´.
Once you have completed domain registration the domain becomes yours for the period of the contract, usually one year.
Before registration expires it must be renewed, or the domain reverts back to being available to the general public.
The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) manages the international Domain Name Server (DNS) database.
ICANN insures that all registered names are unique and map properly to a unique Internet Protocol (IP) address.
The IP address is the numerical address of the website that tells other computers on the Internet where to find the server host and domain.
Domain registration is available to the public via a registrar.
At TransVer´s the costs of registration are €12.00 or £10.00 per domain name.
Before a domain registration can be approved, the new name must be checked against existing names in the DNS database.
Our online registrar Antagonist (http://www.antagonist.nl/) provides a field into which you can enter your desired name and hierarchy —- that is, the letters that come after the "dot".
Familiar hierarchies are .com, .net, .org, .name, .info and .biz.
We support: .nl, .be, .eu, .com, .net, .org, .biz en .info.
If the name is not already taken, it is available for domain registration.
During the domain registration process, you will be required to give contact information that will be publicly available through the WHOIS database.
Anyone can go to a WHOIS search engine and enter a domain name to see who has registered it.
Upon completing the domain registration process, it will take a period of hours to a one day to be able to see the domain online.
The domain can be "parked" with an "in construction" page that acts as a kind of placeholder.
Web hosting is a service which allocates space for customers to showcase their websites on computer servers that are connected to the Internet 24/7.
Servers are powerful computers that have extremely large hard drives, or an array of hard drives.
Space is then rented to those who want a "website presence" on the Internet.
Every server on the Internet has a unique numerical IP (Internet Protocol) address.
You can think of servers as apartment buildings with unique addresses.
Each apartment unit within each building is equivocal to space rented out for individual websites.
And like real apartment buildings, each unit also has an address based on "the building" in which it is located.
When you rent a space on a server then, you´re setting up house on the Internet.
You can be reached by a unique address (the website address), which is based on the server´s address.
There are many different types of web hosting.
Most packages come with certain capabilities for users.
Examples are scripts that allow interactive functions, forms, bulletin boards, guest books, etc.
For professional purposes there are also Web hosting services that offer commercial packages that bundle business tools, like point of sales packages and credit card processing.
We will host your website on the servers of hosting provider Antagonist (see http://www.antagonist.nl) for as little as
€36.00 or £30.00 per year, featuring 3 GB storage capacity and 60 GB data traffic.
For more demanding websites we offer an extended package for €85.00 or £76.00 offering both unlimited storage space and data traffic.
Attractive price reductions possible in case of long term (more than 1 year) contracts.
